Known for his research on gastrointestinal development and how intestinal bacteria affect intestinal function: Dr. Gordon is the leading investigator of the developmental biology of the gastrointestinal tract; his novel mouse models have provided fundamental insights about how gut epithelial cells are first formed and continuously renewed, the effects of cadherins and associated proteins on epithelial differentiation and movement, and how nonpathogenic bacteria affect gut physiology.
