Environmental changes, such as pollution, climate change, and natural and human-caused disasters, affect people worldwide. The health effects of environmental change can be wide-reaching, ranging from acute injuries and emotional trauma to the incidence and worsening of physical and mental health conditions. Environmental change is also a social justice issue. People with less social, economic, and political advantage are more likely to experience the negative effects of environmental change. Dr. Ekenga’s research examines how lifestyle, environmental, and occupational factors interact to influence health and well-being. She discusses local and global examples of environmental injustice in this important and timely talk on the impact of our changing environment on human health.
