Lithium-ion batteries have enabled great cellphones, portable power tools, and electric cars. But we also experience their limitations and witness their safety problems. What can we do to make them better? Are there more sustainable alternatives? Research in the Lab of Peng Bai at Washington University is paving new ways, following the guidance of the basic but fascinating science.
