What if greening our city was a game? What if it played out in real life, and the game board was comprised of our schoolyard, backyards, parking lots, and vacant lots? What if the object was to create, care for, and connect biodiverse landscapes that, together, improve quality of life for all?
In this interactive session connecting ecological landscape design principles, urban planning, community dynamics, and citizen stewardship, participants will play (and help hone) a prototype game using their own communities as the ultimate game-board of life. Relying on their critical thinking, problem-solving, and cooperation skills, gamers will be challenged to map assets, identify place-based opportunities, and strengthen relationships with fellow gamers as they design community landscapes that reap environmental, social, and economic benefits. Similar to how the real-world game of promoting nature-rich communities is ever-evolving and involves a diversity of disciplines and potential careers, players of BiodiverseCitySTL: The Game will benefit from a broader and deeper understanding of choices and actions that can positively impact the health, well-being, vibrancy, and resiliency of a region.
Teen Science Cafe – BiodiverseCity St. Louis: The Game BetaTest! is a partnership presentation of The Academy of Science – St. Louis and BiodiverseCity St. Louis.
