Student Tour of the Monsanto Chesterfield Research Facility plus BONUS - Speaker: Jeremy Williams, VP Technology (currently leading both Chemistry and Biotech); followed by discussion and pizza lunch.

Open to students in Grades 6-12 (Students who just completed 5th grade may attend if age 12 or over)

FREE - REGISTRATION REQUIRED TO ATTEND.

DEADLINE for REGISTRATION is July 13, 2018.

Space is limited with preference given to Junior Academy of Science and Academy of Science - St. Louis Science Fair Honors Division students. One parent may attend with their child.

Cafe Topic:
Modern breeding relies on many tools and technologies to produce plant varieties that provide farmers and growers with predictable, consistent results. Today scientists use everything from machine learning to naturally occurring biological processes, such as haploid induction, (a process used to speed plant breeding) to create these varieties. Try out some of the plant breeding methods scientists use in this hands-on cafe for teens and discuss genetic modification and what those words mean to a scientist.

Walk through green houses to see test plants that need less water. Share, discuss and learn how we work with nature. See plants as they grow from a single cell. Free and open to Academy of Science - St. Louis Science Fair Honors Division Students, Junior Academy members and students in Grades 6-12. Parent may attend with their teen.
